Praised as a pianist with “flair and energy” by The New York Times, Bösendorfer artist Dr. Michael Fennelly gained international attention upon completing George Gershwin’s unfinished setting of Rhapsody in Blue for solo piano, orchestra, and symphonic chorus—a achievement for which he received a knighthood in Spain. Following the premiere with the National Chorale at Lincoln Center, The Huffington Post proclaimed his performance “hit like a lightning bolt which catapulted the audience 2,000 feet in the air.” Dr. Fennelly has toured extensively across all seven continents, performing in the world’s great concert halls from Carnegie Hall to the Opéra de Monte-Carlo, and has shared the stage with international opera star Renée Fleming, the New York Philharmonic under Alan Gilbert, and the Buffalo Philharmonic under JoAnn Falletta.
In recent years, Dr. Fennelly has launched a distinguished conducting career, leading productions of Madama Butterfly, La Traviata, and numerous world premieres including Les Trois Mousquetaires at the Phoenicia Festival. He has served as assistant conductor at prestigious music festivals including Wolftrap, Castleton, and Ashlawn, and has led countless chamber and operatic concerts from the keyboard. His solo piano albums include The Legend of Faust, Debut, and Grand Tour on Athena Records.
